Special Presentation IMFF in San Diego with Jed Brophy
Tuesday May 16, 2023
Tuesday May 16, 2023
Jed Brophy is an Honorary Ambassador for the IMFF, where all films are shot with smartphone cameras, and has been a recurring judge in the short film competition. Episode 145 is a bit of a first bringing you a part of our in-person film festival with Jed's presentation.
Since 2020, Jed has been trying to make his way to our film festival in San Diego. Of course, we all know what happened in 2020 but Jed had been busy working on The Rings Of Power which premiered on Amazon Prime last year.
Jed shared his backstory on how he started acting and his beginnings working with Peter Jackson. He also spoke about mobile filmmaking.
I met Jed Brophy and Mark Hadlow in 2018 when Rich Vizor contacted me about their film, Blue Moon. Blue Moon was a feature film shot with an iPhone 7 in New Zealand.
Jed’s presentation was energetic, enthusiastic and truly inspiring. We’re grateful to Jed for making out this year and wish him the very best with all his projects.

Smartphone Filmmaking Rewards You Forever with Levi Austin Morris
Tuesday May 09, 2023
Tuesday May 09, 2023
Levi Austin Morris won the Best Feature film Award for Paralysis at this year’s International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego, California. The entire film was shot with two iPhones.
Paralysis is a horror film of about an hour 47 or so minutes long. Levi and I discuss the intricate details that went into making the film and the reactions it received at the festival.
We discuss the impressive experience he and his team had during the festival. It’s a fun, energetic discussion on the unique energy felt by everyone during the festival. The intimacy between the filmmakers and the friendships formed. Mobile filmmaking is an opportunity to leave a legacy and we spoke about that. But we also touched on the rewarding experience felt by the attending filmmakers.
Some insights we share include the progress over the years, of making movies with phones.
