Roundtable San Diego International Mobile Film Festival Episode 26
Wednesday May 02, 2018
Wednesday May 02, 2018
The two-day event in San Diego, celebrated mobile filmmaking around the world. Several filmmakers came out to be a part of it in person and we are extremely grateful to them for doing so. Not all filmmakers are able to make the trip and attend so this year, since we host the SBP Podcast to give a voice to the mobile film community, we decided to host this Roundtable discussion about the festival for our listeners around the world, and those who could not come.
In this roundtable were several of the filmmakers, sponsors and our brand ambassador Aaron Nabus.
Brian Hennings and Narelle Nash from Australia, who accepted awards during the red carpet Awards Ceremony participated with Chuck Cropland from Toronto, Prakash Gandhi Natarajan, and Seth Dacio from San Diego were some of the star filmmakers from the film festival who were able to stay for the roundtable podcast.
Also with us were Neal and Jana Hallford from Swords and Sorcery Studios and J.R. Thrasher from San Diego Real Estate Veterans who all sponsored our film festival.
The podcast began with an introduction around the table and then everyone spoke about their experience at the film festival from their perspective. These filmmakers were a lot of fun to talk to and had a great sense of humor. It was great hearing from Seth Dacio, one of the youngest filmmakers, still in his teens, about how much he enjoyed the red carpet experience with the Star Wars Steampunk Universe cosplay group escorts.
Soon after that we held the “Battle of the Phones” session which was lots of fun between Brian and Narelle. We also get to hear the perspective of some of our local sponsors.
The podcast was a nice addition to the festival for everyone who could not make it. It is probably the next best thing to sitting down with some of the people who took part in the festival.
Hope you enjoy the discussion and subscribe to listen to more coming weekly.
If this is the first time you have listened to our podcast, feel free to cruise through the previous episodes of our podcast where we have discussions with our guests about mobile film.
You can listen on iTunes and GooglePlay, Stitcher and other platforms and you can download the episode to listen offline anywhere, including your car, while you drive.
We want to thank all the filmmakers who were a part of our film festival and whose films were screened.
You can get more details about the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego on the website.

Celebrate Making Movies with Smartphones In San Diego Episode 25
Tuesday Apr 10, 2018
Tuesday Apr 10, 2018
The seventh edition of the annual International Mobile Film Festival takes place April 28 & 29 in San Diego. This year, we celebrate making movies with smartphones all over the world with a number of filmmakers who attend the festival. Films shot with only mobile phones will screen during the festival and the filmmakers look forward to sharing the stories with attendees and fellow filmmakers. Some filmmakers are local from San Diego and others come from other countries. Some of the filmmakers are as young as 12 years old and others…well, they are older. Some are experienced in the video and film industry and others are novices who only dreamed of being a filmmaker before last year.
This year’s festival not only brings mobile filmmakers to the event, a red carpet awards ceremony, Q&A Sessions, mobile filmmaking workshop presentation and networking. This year brings a feature length film shot with an iPhone during a special screening with a lecture by filmmaker and protagonist, Brian McLane from New York, and a Q&A session with Hollywood actor Tim Russ, best known for his role as Tuvok in the Star Trek Voyager television series. Tim Russ played a role in Brian’s feature film. But wait, there’s more! #MFF2018SanDiego will host the USA premier of the Filmbreaker movement keynote presentation with Jason van Genderen from Sydney, Australia.
The event will inspire the storyteller in people of all ages with or without film and video experience. Wether you made a Hollywood blockbuster film or your experience stops with your latest kitty cat video on Instagram, this film festival is for anyone who has a mobile phone or simply has access to one. The event is for all ages and for all human beings on the planet.
Sunday is the day we host the red carpet awards ceremony. Last year, the filmmakers enjoyed their red carpet experience with a local cosplay group: Star Wars Steampunk Universe. They are coming back this year. The International Mobile Film Festival is inviting all cosplayers to not only attend our film festivals but to participate with the new Cosplay mobile film category where they can join filmmakers from all over the world sharing their stories through film using their smartphone cameras. If you happen to be a cosplayer, join us to find out more about this unique filmmaking category designed for you!
Episode 25 of the SBP Podcast is a two-part episode. We begin with Tracy, Hot Nerd Girl, who leads the Star Wars Steampunk Universe group and Aaron Nabus, co-host of the HallHShow podcast and SBP Brand Ambassador. We recorded our podcast during the Steampunk Gaslight Gathering in San Diego in which Tracy’s group presented a panel.
The second part of our podcast is a compilation of clips from our podcast conversations which we had with guests who are participating in #MFF2018SanDiego as official filmmakers and VIP speakers such as Brian McLane and Jason van Genderen. The filmmakers chosen are attending the festival in San Diego and if you are coming, you can meet them in person.

Smartphone Video For A Cause with Dimple Devadas Episode 24
Tuesday Apr 03, 2018
Tuesday Apr 03, 2018
Our guest for Episode 24 of the SBP Podcast is Dimple Devadas in London. Her film, Silence in London will screen during the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego #MFF2018. Shot with an iPhone, the film shares an interesting message in a natural setting with a poetic song. Cassius Rayner made the movie with her. She and Cassius met in a mobile filmmaking class he taught in London and they decided to work on the film together. You can hear from him on Episode 20 of the SBP Podcast.
Dimple is a psychologist by profession but she is also making films using smartphones. She says to “watch this space,” meaning her space, as she is already working on new projects. This podcast is a conversation about how some of the stories behind a film can help you understand the message behind a film and appreciate how it came together. This is true with many films and this one has a a cause behind it with a story being told in the moment and an opportunity for you to join the cause with your own version in your community.

Upcoming International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego Episode 22
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Our brand ambassador, Aaron Nabus and myself discuss the upcoming International Mobile Film Festival taking place April 28 and 29 in San Diego. The festival is exclusively focused on all things mobile film. The theme this year is a celebration of making movies and videos with smartphones globally.
We share the logistics of the festival, the location, the dates, the times and what attendees can expect. We asked Aaron Nabus, our brand ambassador, to share the names of the filmmakers in this year’s film festival #MFF2018SanDiego. We spoke a bit about why we are celebrating mobile film as a theme this year and then we talked a bit about some filmmakers who are coming back this year.
Aaron shared some information about our VIP Special Guest Speaker, Tim Russ also known for his role as Tuvok in the Star Trek Voyager television series.
The entire podcast is an open conversation about our film festival and the community Aaron has come to know since he met me during our mobile filmmaking panel during Comic-Con in San Diego 2016. We also talk about the current state of mobile filmmaking regarding the fact that Hollywood is now publicly showing interest in making films with iPhones.
Aaron and I discuss the new official Cosplay Category for our film festival which we are looking forward to presenting during our film festival next year. Aaron is captivated by the Chicken Story from our film festival’s beginnings…so we talk a bit about that and you’ll have to listen to the podcast to know what our film festival has to do with chickens.
This episode was recorded on March 17th, Saint Patrick’s Day. It’s a bit relaxed and casual but that is why you may enjoy the natural flow of the conversation discussing our favorite and most important event of the year. There are some tips about making films and videos with smartphones mixed in this podcast.
